Happy Hour on the Border

Happy Hour on the Border
This place is hopping Friday at five,
regulars at the bar, happy hour prices,
families in the dining room with kids menus,
a small box of crayons and paper place mats
with a circus theme.

The cooks and servers share a room downtown
and a ride to work. The guy who opens and closes,
came up in a caravan, sleeps on a cot in the kitchen.
The manager wears a class ring, drives a Subaru,
watches the President rant on TV, red in the face.

Another caravan travels north toward the border,
and battle-ready soldiers move south to confront them
on lonely border highways and dirt roads - a convoy
of taco trucks on their trail.

A Hearty Hand-clasp to The Donald .................. (a satirical view)

By Jerry Franklin

Jerry is a retired high-school Government teacher residing in San Diego County, California.

Donald Trump, claiming he needed to stay home to coordinate the response to Hurricane Dorian, backed out of a planned trip to Poland last week and played golf instead. He did, however, send a message: "I just want to congratulate Poland. It's a great country with great people." Below is a history teacher's response.
A Hearty Hand-clasp to The Donald ...
Well now,  how do all of you “Never Trumpers" feel about our President’s gracious
acknowledgement of Poland on the 80th anniversary of Germany’s invasion. I was only eight months old at the time so my memory of the event is a little shaky. Still, I have taken advantage of the time since to read about the incident in a history book. I read.

There are, however, many who well remember the heroic efforts of those Polish Lancers, their stanchions held high with Polish Flags fluttering as they galloped proudly toward the oncoming ranks of those dirty, smelly German tanks rolling across their Polish plains at breakneck speed. Somewhere there must be a stunning oil painting of this historic moment hanging in a Polish museum.
